Paying Terminated Employees in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, except for salespersons who are paid on a commission basis, employees without contracts who quit or are discharged must be paid in full no later than the employee's next regular pay day or monthly, whichever is earlier.

Businesses that relocate, merge or shut down must pay employees within 24 hours. Manufacturers that require employees to give notice of their intent to quit under penalty of forfeiture are liable for the amount of forfeiture if they discharge an employee without notice, except in cases of misconduct, incapacity or departmental layoffs.
